'Recent Posts' - Where did they go?

From: David McMahon
To: Terry Fletcher
Subject: Request from Jenera Healey

Jenera says, "I'm trying some new things with my template and I'd like to add a Recent Posts section in and I know you have one. How did you get that in your template? I'm having a heck of a time trying to get it in there!"

What's the answer El-Tel? I seem to remember we worked on this one when I first switched to the new template.

David

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Must admit that this one caused a bit of consternation because, as David mentions in his email, we DID work together on his template when he did the switch.

The BAD news is that it isn't possible to incorporate the feature into Jenera's template. Simple reason:

  • Jenera is using NEW-Blogger.
  • David is still using OLD-Blogger!

There is no doubt that NEW-Blogger is much more user-friendly and that it has introduced a 'drag-and-drop' feature, but at the same time the designers have integrated certain features. The 'Recent Posts' feature is one of them, and has been integrated into the 'Archives' feature which, in turn, has been expanded to allow different displays of the archived posts.

Win some! Lose some! But I will continue to investigate if it is possible to split the two.

Hi El Tel,

You're a good man. Jenera's question had me completely foxed.

Hope the Portal is satisfyingly upgraded after all your work!

Keep an eye on my blog for a `different' picture from the norm.

Cheers

David

Me, too. Until I took a closer look at your template. That's when the Zebedee-lightbulb finally came on!

I'll keep looking. Somebody, somewhere probably wanted the same thing and managed to 'hack' it.

Thank you so much for checking into this for me! For now I just have the archives set to monthly so it shows the titles better. I appreciate the help though! I was thinking I was just goofy and didn't get it.

Jenera,

HAH!

You'd be surprised how often 'smart@sses' feel goofy. I've just spent 2 solid days working with the software authors of my website. Just couldn't get my message across.

Then, a chance comment I made meant that they could home in on the problem. Like 'Zebedee' (parochial that, unless you are also a 'Magic Roundabout' devotee) their lightbulbs all lit up at the same time, and the problem got solved.

In a perverse sort of way it is a lot of fun, so don't stop asking questions!

I have a question about tables in posts. I want to put in a table or spreadsheet or something similar into a post but I'm not good at all with HTML that is over complicated. Is there an easy way to do this?

It is quite easy, Jenera. All you need to remember is how much space (width) you have on your blog to display the table.

I can't post any code in here, so it is probably best that you email me and I'll give you a 'heads-up' on how to go about it.

OK?

I'm not going to be at my 'home' computer until tomorrow so you can email me at fluffnera@msn.com if possible. I thank you very much for your help!

Jenera,

emailed you with some 'destructions'. Get back to me if 'fings don't work out!

I hate my email program! I lost your emails that you sent!

I put up a table on my other blog http://jenerasdiet.blogspot.com and the table itself looks fine but there is a huge gap between my opening text and the table. How do I fix this?

Hi Terry
David McMahon has made reference to you giving a tutorial on how to incorporate a picture into a blog title.
Please bring it on – the sooner the better.

@ jenera . . .

emailed you with another set of instructions. Hope this works for you.

@ yesbut . . .

Tutorial coming up. Have to get my mind clear enough to separate the differences between OLD and NEW Blogger templates. Probably best to split the two so that peeps can concentrate on their version.

Watch this space . . . !
